Unfiltered: Beyond the Grid with Christina Bright

Christina Bright is her name, but you can call her Chris Miss. She is a multifaceted creative who was born and raised in Newark, NJ.  Her transparency, creativity, optimism and outpouring love for her son captured our attention and we're honored to have an unfiltered conversation Beyond the Grid with Christina.

1. How would you describe yourself in one line?

THINGS DON'T HAPPEN TO ME THEY HAPPEN FOR ME.

2. What have you been up to lately?
I've been really focused on organizing my life and my ideas. I've been doing the work on myself for quite some time now, and through that work certain things have become very clear to me ( both strengths and weaknesses). I've been doing the things I'm good at ..mainly creating. I started a brand recently called "RepYourHOODie"

3. What would you do if money weren't an issue?
I'm not currently (monetarily rich) but lacking money has never stopped me from doing exactly what I want to do. To me , money is never an "issue". I think you know you are really passionate about something when you find a way to do it with the resources you have already. The idea that money or the lack of something that can prevent you from achieving your dreams is one I don't subscribe to. I believe lacking resources is when you're creativity ( which I call the universe's currency)  goes into overdrive, and ironically...THE MONEY FOLLOWS!

4. Who has had the biggest influence on your growth?
My son definitely has had the biggest influence on my growth. Being a parent in transformative. Knowing that I am responsible for a little human shapes every decision I make. It's one thing to have to physically care for a child, but as he started to grow, and understand, I knew that the real work was in the work I had to do on myself. Kids learn by example. So I have made my life about being the best that I can be so that he could see what that looks like first-hand. If it isn't making me better (people, places, and or things) I don't associate with it. Being a mother has changed the way I look at people. I look at them as other people's children first.  Overall, I feel that has made me a very empathetic person.

5. What are you most grateful for?
I am most grateful for life. The opportunity to wake up everyday to be better and do better is something a lot of us take for granted. The opportunity to get up and try again , is what I'm most grateful for.

6. What is the best piece of advice you ever received from someone?
"Feel what you have to feel and move on". This advice was very powerful and exactly what I needed in that moment. A lot of times we don't allow ourselves to be in the moment. We rush ourselves out of healing because we fear feeling anything other than happiness and joy. I understand now that we feel our feelings for a reason and they are all equally important.

7. What's the last book you've read?
Ask and it is Given by Abraham Hicks . I recommend every single person read this book. It really changed the way I think about myself and my life.

8. What podcast are you loving right now?
I absolutely love Black Girl Pod. It's real. It's authentic. It's relatable. I also really love Oprah's Super Soul Conversations , well because Oprah always knows!
